About Me

Maria Lozano has over 30 years of experience in the music industry.

In 1993, Maria signed up with a temp agency and was assigned to a two-week temporary job at Sony Music Publishing. She stayed at Sony for 11 years, and rose to become the Director of Administration, a position in which she oversaw licensing (mechanical, synchronization, karaoke, ringtone, print, and new media); registrations with PROs and the Library of Congress; delivery of data from songwriters and publishers; and collection and distribution of royalties for the U.S. Latin, Latin American, and Iberian repertoires.

After leaving Sony, Maria was recruited to work at a startup, owners of the famed Latin label, Fania, where she oversaw the administration of the company’s publishing and recorded music assets and was instrumental in the acquisition of the equally famed, Kubaney catalog.

As a consultant, Maria has worked with various artists including Chayanne®, Ricardo Arjona®, and Sebastian Yatra assisting them with income tracking; drafting correspondence; licensing image and likeness; setting up publishing entities; negotiating a sub-publishing administration deal; signing songwriters; pre-selecting repertoire for recording; assisting in negotiating contract terms with record producers, tour personnel, tour equipment vendors; liaising with record labels; training office personnel; registration of repertorie with neighboring rights societies and assisting in resolving disputes; managing time with legal counsel, and working closely with trademark attorneys to protect artist’s marks from infringement.

In 2019, Maria joined Exploration Copyright Management, an independent rights management company where she is the Director of Latin Music responsible for acquiring Latin artists and songwriters for distribution and publishing representation.

Throughout her long career, Maria has developed rapport with songwriters, artists, attorneys, managers, and other industry executives that today provide a source of referrals for her consultancy business.

Maria earned a Bachelor of Arts from the City University of New York at Hunter College and is fully bilingual in Spanish and English.
